Been thinking about a simple use for AI in marketing: comparing a company’s brand documents with the ads it is actually running.
The useful question is whether the ads are attracting the kind of customer the business is built to serve.
An ad that competes on low price and speed will call in people who care about low price and speed. That can generate leads while creating a problem for a company whose work is premium and depends on trust, expertise, or a longer relationship. Marketing sees volume but sales sees the mismatch later.
Many companies already have the raw material for this review: a brand deck or Notion page, plus months of live ads. The brand document needs to be specific enough to explain the customer, what that customer values, the promise the company is willing to make, and what it does not want to compete on. A list of values such as quality and innovation is not enough to judge real copy.
I would give AI that document and five current ads, then ask it to describe the customer each ad appears written for and the expectation it creates. Comparing that description with the customer in the brand document should reveal where the ad and the company are pulling in different directions.
I would not ask AI to grade or rewrite everything. Its job is to surface disagreements for the people closest to the business to judge. If the comparison is impossible because the brand document is vague, that is useful information too.
Five ads should be enough to learn whether the brand can guide the marketing or still only lives in someone’s head.
(If you're not sure how to write a good prompt for this, just paste this newsletter into your AI tool and ask it to write it for you.)
Always expect friction.
